  • Description and History

A Zolan scientist named Lawrence modified several VF-5000 variable fighters for the purpose of communicating with space whales. Speaker units were installed that both aided in receipt and transmission of music played by Nekki Basara. Liza Hoyly of the Zolan Galactica Whale patrol unit piloted one of these modified Star Mirage variable fighters in 2047.

NOTE: The VF-5000's designation was inspired by the Dassault Mirage 2000. Studio HalfEye titled its model the "Star Mirage," although Shoji Kawamori had indicated such a designation was only a nickname. The name "Star Mirage" has since been published in the book Shoji Kawamori's Macross Design Works (2001) and the Macross Chronicle (2009).
