The Zolan Patrol Corps Mothership (aka Patrol Sub) is a multipurpose ship used by the Zolan Patrol forces of the planet Zola. The mothership can operate effectively on the surface of a planet, being particularly well-suited to cruise upon the vast ocean areas that dominate Zola. The mothership also has the capability to independently achieve orbit and re-enter the atmosphere. The Patrol Corps deploys the mothership in support of the VF-5000 Star Mirage, the primary variable fighter of the corps aerospace forces. Since the mothership is a small warship that is not particularly powerful or capable, it fulfills the role of an auxiliary vessel that supports variable fighter operations.
The structure of the Patrol Mothership differs significantly from vessels built by the UN Spacy. The mothership hull is built of flat and curved surfaces reminiscent of aquatic warships. A bridge sits atop the warship's bow and six engines at the stern (four engines mounted upon the dorsal rear hull and two engines mounted upon the rear ventral hull). The two fin/wing units upon either side of the ship fold inward when the craft operates in water. These fin/wing units form the craft's waterline when cruising upon the oceans of Zola. Although the ship is fully combat capable, it is seldom seen in actual battle. During operations the mothership is most often involved in suspect arrest and detaintment as well as transport and emergency measures. The Patrol Mothership features an onboard medical emergency room prepared for casualties suffered during mission operations. Physicians are also on hand as part of the warship's crew. Though the facility is not capable of total medical treatment, it carries diagnostic and emergency medical equipment for life-prolonging procedures. It also features a medical treatment capsule for patient diagnosis and treatment (floating the patient within a liquid medicine suspension inside the capsule).
The Galactic Patrol Corps are charged with protecting public order on the planet Zola, having arranged a cooperative agreement with the Unified Forces of the UNG. The Patrol Corps mobilizes the mothership when large-scale apprehending of suspects and similar security actions are required. When not deployed, the mothership docks at a quay in a harbor adjacent to the Patrol Corps headquarters. In 2047, Protodeviln War hero Nekki Basara visited the planet Zola and inadvertantly became embroiled in an ongoing conflict involving the Patrol Corps attempts to curb a poaching group operating within the planet's orbit. This poaching group was illegally hunting the galactic whales, creatures that annually migrate to the planet Zola. The Galactic Patrol Corps utilized the mothership as part of a task force to pursue and curtail the illegal activities of these poachers. At this time the Patrol Mothership was involved in several skirmishes, including an incident in which Basara was rescued by Zolan Corps officer Liza Hoyly and safely transported aboard to Corps' headquarters.
*The Patrol Mothership has no official physical dimensions in any written trivia. The Macross Chronicle 2E MD7 Mechanic Sheet ETC 01A includes a silhouette size chart which compares the SDF-1 Macross to the Patrol Mothership, indicating an approximate length of 150-200 meters. When analyzing the Patrol Mothership in a screen shot of the anime OVA compared to the size of the VF-5000 Star Mirage (14.03 meters long), the Mothership craft is roughly 22 times the length of a VF-5000, or approximately 308.7 meters in length.
