Technical Data

Equipment Type: variable fighter (commander model)
Unofficial codename: Slayer Valkyrie
Government: Kingdom of Wind - Windermere
Manufacturer: General Galaxy "SV Works"
Introduction: unknown
Operational Deployment: unknown
Accommodation: pilot only (cockpit canopy is opaque)
Dimensions:
  • Battroid Mode: height 15.78 meters (without laser guns)
  • Fighter Mode: wingspan 13.0 meters; height 5.74 meters; length 17.54 meters
  • GERWALK Mode: unknown
  • Mass: empty 9.810 metric tons
Structure: General Galaxy SW-2501 SWGA Energy Converting Armor
Power Plant: two P&W/RR/L.A.I. FF-2999/FC2 Stage IIG thermonuclear reaction turbine engines
Propulsion: 2 x 1,955 kN (maximum thrust in space); special "Reheat System" makes 30% increase to over-boost possible; many x P&W HMM-10A High maneuverability verniers
    Thrust-to-weight ratio: (empty) 40.63
    Performance:
  • Fighter Mode: at 10,000 m Mach 5.8+, maximum speed due to heat-resistance limit of the fuselage
  • Maximum Airframe Design Load: 30.8G (when ISC operates, the aircraft, cockpit and equipment is protected from high G)
Design Features: 3-mode variable transformation; delta wing configuration; capable of attaining unassisted orbital velocity over an Earth-class planet; Shinsei/LAI ISC-TO21G ISC (Inertia Store Converter); Bifors ESC-09G active stealth system; General Galaxy PPS-28 chaff-flare-smoke discharger system; equipped with joint variable 3D-maneuvering nozzle for both engines; cockpit equipped with an image projection viewing system and non-transparent armored canopy (exterior images from external cameras are projected upon the interior walls of the canopy) and pilot's family crest is paintined upon caopy exterior; optical stealth system; "Reheat System" uses Fold quartz excavated from Protoculture ruins on Windermere IV to improve over-boast system output compared to Ba-variant
    - Armament -
    Guns:
  • 2 x Mauler ROV-76 anti-aircraft beam machine guns (mounted within the nose cone in Fighter mode, becomes head turret in Battroid mode)
  • 2 x Remmington LM-27C 27mm machine gun rail guns (mini gunpod) (mounted rear of cockpit in Fighter mode, upon lower right arm in GERWALK/Battroid modes)
  • 1 x General Galaxy GBP-35A beam gunpod (mounted semi-recessed in ventral center in Fighter mode, moves to dorsal side as turret pod for GERWALK mode)
  • 1 x anti-projectile shield (shield folds in half to become single dorsal tail fin in Fighter mode)
  • 1 x General Galaxy VPB-211R pin-point barrier system
  • Bombs & Missiles:
  • none
  • Optional Armament:
  • 1 x DAS-03k "Draken Fang" assault sword, energy conversion armor material composition built as light as possible due to airframe weight contraints; energy capacitor built within the sword grip provides operation for up to 3 minutes, with longer operation possible when power is provided from engines through the manipulator holding the sword (folding design, stored within right engine/leg in Fighter mode)
  • 2 x LD-262S "Lil Draken" aerospace drones
    • fuselage composed of energy converting armor, but the drone's small energy capacitor cannot sustain regular operation except when docked with Sv-262 Draken III
    • option of replacing beam cannon with wide-area fold wave jamming device
    • docked upon left/right main wings of SV-262 Draken III in Fighter mode (Sv-262 Draken III main wings fold vertically to accommodate), mounted rear torso in Battroid mode
    • docked LD-262 drones prevent the Sv-262 Draken III from landing in Fighter mode due to insufficient clearance; GERWALK mode utilized as landing configuration
    • Armament: 1 x 30mm beam cannon; 4 x micro-missile launchers
  • 4 x Bifors AIMM-4A micro-missile pods (mounted upon the dorsal and ventral engine/leg sections)

  • Description and History

This initially mysterious Valkyrie appeared in early 2067 at which time several of these dark-colored craft launched an attack against NUN Spacy forces deployed upon the planet of Al-Shahal. Not long after it was discovered this craft belongs to the Aerial Knights from the "Kingdom of Wind", a government of the planet Windermere located in a remote star system. Soon the public learned it was named the "Sv-262 Draken III", a state-of-the-art stealth attack aircraft intially appearing in a formation of 6 craft of the White Knight Platoon, lead by one of the King's Guard named Keith Aero Windermere. These craft constitute the Windermere kingdom variable fighter forces and precipitated the Second Windermere Revolutionary War.

The Sv-262 Draken III has a unique transformation mechanism and a fighter mode in which both engines are situated to provide thrust from a single concentrated point. These design features improve airframe strength and provide the Draken III with thrust, acceleration and maneuverability performance comparable to other modern variable fighters. Unfortunately, the Draken III special transformation system reduces on-board propellant capacity which limits cruising range in space. This disadvantage is partially mitigated by mounting two LD-262S "Lil Draken" drones that have independent engine thrust and fuel carrying capacity. In addition to an active stealth system the Sv-262 Draken III is also equipped with an optical stealth system that camouflages the paint color and exterior markings from electronic camera and visual sensor systems.

The Aerial Knights that pilot the Sv-262 Draken III are directed by Roid Brehm. In what becomes the Second Windermere War of Independence, Gramia Nehrich Windermere leads the Kingdom of Wind in an ambitious plan to conquer all of the Brisingr Globular Cluster in 2067.

Note: The design inspiration for the Sv-262 is the Saab 35 Draken. Shoji Kawamori noted this is the first time that a Valkyrie with this unique delta wing design has appeared in Macross. Tenjin Hidetaka noted that the cockpit is not transparent.

Additional Trivia: The model number "Sv" is said to mean "Slayer Valkyrie" or "Slayer VF", a variable fighter designed for intercepting enemy variable fighters and base defense (Bandai 1/72 scale Sv-262Hs Draken III model kit; Keith Aero Windermere Custom). The nickname (pet name) "draken" in Swedish means "dragon". Tenjin Hidetaka based the Draken colors on the JPS (John Player Special) gold on black from the old Lotus F1 race cars (Great Mechanics G Winter 2015 published by Futabasha, p.17)
