VF-31J Fighter
Variant VF-31J Siegfried (Line Art, Toy and Anime)

Notes

Debut: Not animated, appears within the "Macross Modelers Vol. 1" pamphlet (published Feb. 2016)
Description: The VF-31 Siegfried is an almost entirely faithful and consistent design across all mediums (line art, 3D CG animation, toy and model kits) but there is one small difference: the proportions of the arms in Battroid (robot) mode. The line art version appears to be the starting point after which the toy/model versions and the animated CG model versions diverge from the original art. In merchandise like the Bandai DX toy figures, the upper arms/biceps of the VF-31 Battroid are thinly proportioned, likely a design compromise to achieve a perfect transformation. In the animated 3D computer-generated models, the VF-31 Battroid is depicted with both oversized upper arms/biceps and wider lower arms/forearms that taper toward the hands. This may have been done to depict the VF-31 as more physically imposing within the animation. The first image depicts the VF-31 with upper arms/biceps proportioned as per Shoji Kawamori's original line art. A second image compares all the official variations.
