  • Description and History

The Wind Valkyrie is a green-colored VF-19 Excalibur Custom variable fighter piloted by Zolan woman Elma Hoyly. The craft is a replica model of the VF-19 Custom Fire Valkyrie flown by the infamous Nekki Basara during the 2045 Protodeviln War. Ever since Elma Hoyly was young, she dreamed of becoming a singer. Following the events in which she met Basara, Elma became a singer of some notable renown (Macross Frontier novelization). However, she eventualy took a different path after singing to became a biologist (publishing papers such as "Migration and Life of Galaxy Whales", creatures active around her home planet of Zola). During the harrowing events in 2062 upon the planet Pipré, Elma worked along side Chaos (χάος) to combat the Var Syndrome. Elma pilots her Wind Valkyrie to stop the rampaging Una-Mushi.

After the end of the Vajra War in 2059 AD, fold bacteria (V-type virus) from the Vajra remains following their departure and three years later in 2062, is the cause of the strange disease Var Syndrome prevalent in various parts of the galaxy. The disease afflicts all forms of life, including the once peaceful gargantuan Una-mushi (Eel Bug), inducing a berserk rage which threatens the populace of the planet Pipré. That year the Pipré Branch of the interstellar para-military conglomerate Chaos (χάος) begins an experiment using the female idol group Thrones to use the power of Song and their "Fold Receptors" to counteract the effects of the Var (known as "Project Thrones"). The variable fighter unit Echo Flight is tasked with escorting Thrones, in which rookie pilot Kite Kinjo is assigned to performers Pirika Polywanov, Shinobu Bomber and Blau Blume as they battle the Una-Mushi.

NOTE: The Wind Valkyrie is described as a green-colored replica model of the red-colored VF-19 Fire Valkyrie. Macross Delta Gaiden: Macross E is a black and white manga series and thus does not include official colored art of the Wind Valkyrie. The fan-made colors shown in this profile are based upon that simple description plus elements of the original VF-19 Custom Fire Valkyrie combined with the Elma Hoyly character design. As the Wind Valkyrie is a replica of the Fire Valkyrie (suggesting it is a green at least as bright as the original red) Elma would likely honor the original color style. As such, the color patterns of the Fire Valkyrie are retained but is primarily green, magenta is converted to dark teal and blue is added from the Elma Hoyly character design.
