Chaos Valkyrie Works/Surya Aerospace VF-31E Siegfried

Technical Data

Equipment Type: variable fighter, Early warning and electronic warfare variant
Affiliation: Chaos
Manufacturer: Chaos Valkyrie Works/Surya Aerospace
Introduction: unknown
Operational Deployment: unknown
Accommodation: pilot with Shinsei/LAI EX-Gear EGP-03/05; rear auxiliary seat; pilot maintains posture as the cockpit remains horizontal within the chest block unlike conventional variable fighters with more sophisticated transformation mechanisms
Dimensions:
  • Battroid Mode: height 15.33 meters (without laser guns)
  • Fighter Mode: wingspan 14.14 meters; height 3.85 meters; length 19.31 meters
  • GERWALK Mode: unknown
  • Mass: empty (without multipurpose container) unknown
Structure: Sentinel SWGA-F20B Energy Conversion Armor system
Power Plant: two Shinsei Industry/ P&W/ RR FF-3001/FC2 Stage IIC thermonuclear reaction turbine engines
Propulsion: 2 x 1,875 kN (maximum thrust in space), in atmosphere, air is used as a propellant for unlimited flight range; Over-boost possible; during Fold wave system operation, engine operation is boosted by about 15% (VF-31C, E, F, J and S); many x P&W HMM-10 High maneuverability verniers
Thrust-to-weight ratio: (empty, without container) unknown
    Performance:
  • Fighter Mode: at 10,000 m Mach 5.5, maximum speed due to heat-resistance limit of the fuselage
  • Maximum Airframe Design Load: 29.5G (when ISC operates, the aircraft, cockpit and equipment is protected from high G)
Design Features: 3-mode variable transformation; forward-swept wing for improved maneuverability at low speeds in atmosphere during Var suppression operations (VF-31C, E, F, J and S); thrust reverser equipped with three-dimensional maneuvering nozzles; Vortex Flow Controller (VFC) primarily for high-altitude maneuverability at low-speeds when small amounts of gases flow to the aircraft surface reducing the aircraft resistance (drag) by delaying the occurrence of strake vortexes; unlimited ceiling capable of launching into satellite orbit without special equipment; Shinsei/LAI ISC-TO21C ISC (Inertia Store Converter); Bifors ECS-09A Active Stealth system; LAI CCFD-11 Chaff/Flare/Smoke Discharger system; AERIAL III flight support AI; Fold Wave system equipped on Chaos' Δ (Delta) Squadron to amplify fold waves of 'Walküre' songs for extended range using rare Fold Quartz inserts (VF-31C, E, F, J and S); drone launchers (VF-31C, E, F, J and S); sensor windows (mounted on the dorsal surface of the nose); multipurpose container; radome is rotated when nose tip rotates during Battroid transformation; arms can be deployed in Fighter mode; enlarged canard wings to compensate for aerodynamic center toward the aft of aircraft (VF-31A); option of fold booster; option of super parts
    - Armament -
    Guns:
  • 2 x fixed Mauler ROV-127E 12.7mm anti-air beam machine gun (mounted center dorsal section in Fighter/GERWALK mode, becomes head turret in Battroid mode)
  • 1 x Howard LU-18A beam gunpod; previous variable fighters were equipped with projectile gunpods, but because the VF-31 engine output has increased it is equipped with a standard high-output beam gunpod (mounted ventral fuselage in Fighter mode, in arm manipulator for Battroid mode, gunpod moves to the dorsal side and acts as a turret in GERWALK mode)
  • 2 x fixed Remington LM-25s 25mm mini gunpod rail gun, exposing the muzzle during use in Fighter mode, gunpods are stored facing backwards but rotate forward from the support point base in GERWALK/Battroid mode (mounted on the ventral side of the fuselage in Fighter mode, upon the arms in GERWALK/Battroid modes); power is less than a standard gunpod and as such these weapons are used to incapacitate
  • 2 x anti-projectile shields made from Energy Conversion Armor (mounted one on each forearm in GERWALK/Battroid mode, part of the wing surface in Fighter mode)
  • 2 x Ka-Bar OTEC AK/VF-M11 Assault knives, knife edge composed of super alloy (can be reinforced with pin-point barrier) for close combat in GERWALK/Battroid modes (folds and is stored behind elbow shields in GERWALK/Battroid modes)
  • 1 x OTEC VPB-S24 pin-point barrier system
  • 2 x engine surface launchers (mounted dorsal rear fuselage in Fighter mode, calf section of legs in Battroid mode)
  • 16 x MDP-001W Cygnus multi-drone plates equipped with entertainment components, mobile stages, illuminated stages, holographic dancers; drones also function as defense and for amplifying fold waves of Walküre songs (mounted within the two engine surface launchers); maximum speed 200 kmph; for atmospheric-use only (equipped upon VF-31C, E, F, J and S)
  • 1 x multipurpose container system [retractable radome for VF-31E] located at the rear in Fighter and GERWALK modes and unfolds behind the head turret in Battroid mode (mounted in center rear fuselage when stowed, deployable in all 3 modes utilizing built-in articulating mount); features remote energy charging unit for multi-drones or sound projection unit using Fold Waves (equipped upon VF-31C, E, F, J and S)
  • Bombs & Missiles:
  • 2 x Bifors CIMM-3B micro-missile launchers with 36 micro-missiles (mounted right/left ventral rear fuselage in Fighter mode, lower legs in GERWALK/Battroid modes)
  • Optional Armament:
  • Super Pack system for space warfare, adds booster and propellant tank (equipped on the wings); features armor (dorsal fuselage and ventral engines in Fighter mode, chest and legs in Battroid mode) and micro-missile containers

  • Description and History

The VF-31E Siegfried is a Surya Aerospace state-of-the-art all-environment variable fighter, one of five variants owned by interstellar conglomerate Chaos (χάος) and operated by Δ (Delta) Squadron Valkyrie unit. Unlike the VF-31A Kairos, Δ (Delta) Squadron's VF-31 Siegfrieds (designated VF-31C, E, F, J and S) are designed specifically for support of "Tactical Musical Unit 'Walküre'" for Var Syndrome suppression. The VF-31E variant of the Siegfried is designed for early warning and electronic warfare.

The VF-31 Siegfried variable fighters of Δ (Delta) Squadron perform air shows using drone plates during live performances by 'Walküre' and also conduct rescue operations of civilians involved in Var Syndrome riots. When the Second War of Windermerean Independence was waged in 2067 Δ (Delta) Squadron and "Tactical Musical Unit 'Walküre'" were heavily involved in numerous hostilities during the conflict. Chuck Mustang is a member of Δ (Delta) Squadron and pilots the VF-31E Siegfried.

Additional Trivia: The nickname (pet name) "Siegfried" is taken after the main character of the epic "Nibelungenlied" (or The Song of the Nibelungs), a German poem written around 1200. Siegfried himself was a dragon slayer, the name given to the Windermere variable fighters ("draken" in Swedish means "dragon"). The name Siegfried 001 is also the callsign of Leon Sakaki from the 2013 video game "Macross 30: Ginga o Tsunagu Utagoe".
