The VF-1A "Super" Valkyrie is at its core a Northrom VF-1A outfitted in the Shinnakasu Heavy Industry FAST Pack augmentative space weapon system. Like all the FAST Pack equipped variable fighters, it enjoys significantly increased weapons payload as well as more fuel and greater thrust. However, the FAST Packs cannot be used in the atmosphere, as they interfere with aerodynamic flight.
NOTE: The estimated number of micro-missiles within the HMMP-02 launcher pods was observed from two sources: the anime TV series and cross-section line art from the "Macross The Movie: Do You Remember Love? Data Bank" book.
In episode 24 of the "Super Dimension Fortress Macross" TV series, Hiakru Ichijo destroys 30 enemy Reguld battle pods with the FAST Pack micro-missiles. Official trivia confirms each NP-AR-01 pack has three missiles, for a total of six missiles. In order for Hikaru to destroy 30 enemy Regulds (assuming one missile per target), the two HMMP-02 launchers must hold 24 additional missiles. Each HMMP-02 launcher would then hold 12 missiles making the loadout 3 missiles within each of the four launching ports for either HMMP-02 launcher pod.
In the "Macross The Movie: Do You Remember Love? Data Bank" book an official cross-section drawing for the VF-1S Strike Valkyrie confirms a HMMP-02 launcher with 12 missiles. One missile is held inside each of the four launching ports and two additional missiles housed in launch tubes immediately behind. The VF-1S Strike Valkyrie only has a single HMMP-02 launcher pod which holds a total of 12 missiles. However, the VF-1A Super Valkyrie mounts two HMMP-02 launcher pods for a total of 24 missiles. When the 24 missiles in two HMMP-02 launchers are added with the 6 missiles in two NP-AR-01 launchers it is confirmed once again the FAST Packs contain a total of 30 missiles.
