During Space War I, the SDF-1 Macross was the only UN Spacy ship that could successfully face the Zentradi Army. In this situation, the HWR-00 Destroid Monster Mk II was the only small-scale mobile weapons system able to participate in attacks between large space warships. As a result, an inexpensive long-range destroid was urgently required and a plan implemented to use the MBR-04 ambulatory system. In this way, a new Type 04 series destroid was equipped with large long-range missile launchers and forward-facing laser guidance systems. Although the LDR-04 lacks a large number of missiles compared to the SDR-04 Destroid Phalanx Mk XII, the Destroid Maverick is comparable in terms of overall firepower.
