  • Description and History

The VF-11D Thunder Focus is a modified airframe built for racing journalism based on the double-seat training variant of the VF-11 Thunderbolt. The Thunder Focus has no armament but instead features the large-sized GCU-03 Custom Camera Pod that serves as both a powerful directional-communications system and possesses the super-long distance photography capabilities equal to a military force-reconnaissance craft. Additionally, the Thunder Focus is equipped with an A.I. model specialized for instant news editing and has the broadcasting station capabilities matching those of a small immigration ship. As a result, the craft is often referred to as 'The moving studio'. Because the Thunder Focus lacks the thrust performance to match advanced variable fighters (AVF) or similar craft, it uses a custom Super pack depending on the mission. The VF-11D Thunder Focus is operated by reporter Rose Guryunesilt (and piloted by D Aviori) covering the famous Vanquish Race of 2058.

NOTE: All colored art featured in this profile is fan-made custom work created by modifying the original line art drawn by Shoji Kawamori. The original VF-11D Thunder Focus is a custom-made plastic model built by KuWa (FRAMEOUT Models) for the Macross The Ride project in 2011. Because the VF-11D Thunder Focus is a fan favorite I built this special profile. The only official line art is the uncolored VF-11D Special cockpit drawn by Kazutaka Miyatake.
