The aerial work platform (AWP) - also known as an elevating work platform (EWP), boom truck or bucket truck - is an effective multi-purpose lift mostly used in construction and mecha maintenance. A powerful lifting boom is attached to a heavy, wide bed truck for mobility. Early in Space War I, Hikaru Ichijo and Lynn Minmay were trapped aboard a sealed section of the SDF-1 Macross, following the vessel's space fold operation from South Ataria Island. When they were finally discovered by mere chance (following a brief Zentradi attack), they were retrieved from a lower level of the ship via a boom lift fitted with a special basket and winch.
