A strange prize for a beauty pageant, the Fan Liner was nonetheless an impressive first place prize for the winner of the Miss Macross Contest. The latest in sport fan jets, the Fan Liner is equipped with a VA-18 hydro-turbine engine based on a design by Ikki Takemi. The aircraft was assembled right on board the Macross and eventually went to contest winner Lynn Minmay, her first appearance of any notoriety before she became a world-renowned singing idol. Long after winning the contest, Minmay finally had the opportunity to enjoy a flight in her Fan Liner when friend Hikaru Ichijo flew her in the aircraft to see her parents in Yokohama, Japan.
NOTE: The name of the fictional designer of the Fan Liner (Ikki Takemi) is an anagram of Macross mechanical artist "Kazutaka Miyatake".
