  • Description and History

The SF-3A Lancer II is an interceptor space fighter designed for deployment from the space carrier ships of the U.N. Spacy. Armed with two long-range particle cannons and thermonuclear reaction missile launchers, the Lancer II delivers heavy firepower at long distances typical in space. Designed with an overwhelming emphasis on acceleration for hit-and-run attacks, the Lancer engines provide a maximum acceleration of over 10G and its vernier belt confers a maximum evasion acceleration of over 15G. Standard operating practice is to accelerate to maximum speed and perform a hit-and-run attack, exhausting most or all of its propellant before switching over to inertial guidance for recovery by its mothership. The SF-3A is equipped with a high-powered search and target acquisition radar and a fixed-forward aiming camera because visual-range combat and dogfighting was not considered in the craft design. There were 78 manned Lancer II fighters stationed aboard the ARMD-01 Space Carrier on February 2009 and they were the first combat craft to engage in battle at the start of Space War I. Over 1,500 SF-3A Lancer II fighters were built before the conclusion of Space War I.

Although the SF-3A Lancer II thrust ratings taken from this book are considered unofficial, the thrust-to-weight ratio from these figures matches the 10G acceleration trivia confirmed by the Macross Chronicle (2008, 2013).
