Notes

Debut: never animated (appears in the manga series Super Dimension Fortress Macross The First, originally found within Macross Ace magazine, Vol. 5, published August 2010)
Description: This variant of the original VF-1J Valkyrie is depicted within the manga series Macross The First. It features a new color scheme and some minor design changes, including a redesigned head unit and cockpit canopy (backend). The "Macross The First" color scheme resembles elements from the VF-25F Messiah official colors as seen in Macross Frontier and the VF-1S Valkyrie colors seen in The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? Super Dimension Fortress Macross The First is a manga adaptation of the 1982 Super Dimension Fortress Macross television series written and illustrated by Haruhiko Mikimoto, character designer for the original series. The manga was created following the success of the 2008 television series Macross Frontier, possibly to exploit the then-current wave of Macross popularity or possibly a way to introduce new audiences to the original Macross story. The manga launched in Kadokawa's Macross Ace magazine in January 26, 2009 but changed serialization mediums several times since. The manga moved to Kadokawa's Newype Ace magazine in September 2011, then moved to Kadokawa's ComicWalker, Kadokawa Niconico Ace, and Comic Newtype manga websites in 2014. Kadokawa published compiled books of the series, the sixth compiled volume (currently the farthest along in the story) was published in May 2015. The series relaunched on the Cycomi website and app service in March 2018 (with newly illustrated "major revisions and updates") and ended online publication of the manga at Chapter Twelve ("Global Report") in December 2018.

The Super Dimension Fortress Macross The First manga series still remains unfinished as of 2022. Although the series was relaunched on the Cycomi online service in 2018, the manga ended online publication that same year and the story ended at the same chapter as published in 2015. As such, no new story has been written or illustrated for Macross The First since 2015. There has never been any official cancellation of the manga, but after seven years on hiatus it's unlikely the series is in production on any level and unlikely to be finished.

The VF-1J Valkyrie (original and MTF variant) was designed by Shoji Kawamori.
